Mass Virtual Joins Industry Team Supporting U.S. Navy’s E-130J Phoenix II Program

Orlando, FL — Mass Virtual, a leader in spatial learning solutions for defense and commercial applications, announced its role as a subcontractor to Long Wave Inc., supporting Northrop Grumman Corporation on the U.S. Navy’s E-130J Phoenix II program. The aircraft will serve as the Navy’s next-generation platform for the Take Charge and Move Out (TACAMO) mission, ensuring survivable communications between national command authorities and the U.S. strategic deterrent forces.

As part of this effort, Mass Virtual will leverage its immersive training expertise to support aircrew training and operational readiness on the E-130J platform. The company’s work will help ensure operators and maintainers receive realistic, repeatable, and data-driven training—enhancing performance, safety, and mission preparedness.

“Mass Virtual is proud to contribute to one of the nation’s most critical defense programs,” said John Brooks, CEO of Mass Virtual. “Our team is passionate about creating transformative training environments that help the men and women of our armed forces perform at their best. Supporting Northrop Grumman, Long Wave, and the U.S. Navy on this vital mission is an honor and a responsibility we take seriously.”

The E-130J Phoenix II will replace the aging E-6B Mercury fleet, introducing modernized systems, increased reliability, and enhanced survivability to ensure the continuity of strategic command and communications operations. Northrop Grumman has announced it will lead the industry team responsible for design, development, and production of the new aircraft, with Long Wave and other key subcontractors providing specialized systems, software, and training technologies.

“Our focus has always been on advancing human performance through immersive innovation,” Brooks added. “Programs like Phoenix II demonstrate how extended reality and digital learning can strengthen readiness for the most demanding missions.”

Mass Virtual’s participation in Phoenix II builds on nearly 17 years of delivering immersive training ecosystems. The company's learning solutions are trusted across the DoD and enterprise for scalability, interactivity, and measurable results.
